HEAR IT NOW: Connecticut’s Celine Who releases “Self Absorbed”
Smooth and sensual, “Self Absorbed” by Connecticut’s Celine Who could’ve just as easily been music released by Jhene Aiko. You need to hear this record now.
NEW CT MUSIC: Autopoet’s “Out of Reach”
With vocals that ought to immediately draw comparison to David Byrne of the Talking Heads, Connecticut’s Autopoet makes music that is fun and unique. Beginning with their newest single, “Out of Reach,” the duo of John Rule and Rex Thurstan are poised to have an electric 2021.
NEW CT MUSIC: Amanda Bellitto Returns with “Colures”
Connecticut singer-songwriter Amanda Bellitto is back at it again with her new single “Colures,” giving us both a lesson in language and great music in one fell swoop. If there’s one thing we love at mvsicthovght, it’s efficiency.
NEW CT ROCK: Pond View’s Mouthbreather
Pond View describes themselves as a “CT rock band that’s gonna blade all over this sorry town,” and it feels like a fair statement. The Connecticut music landscape is diverse, but for all the pop-punk, emo, and other indie acts the state offers, I haven’t come across many pure rock bands. I’m not sure if I would call Pond View a pure rock band, but they could definitely play one on TV.
NEW CT MUSIC: “Sunshine and Grey” by West Hartford’s Cassie’s Crutch
There’s a lot to enjoy about new comers Cassie’s Crutch. The West Hartford band’s new single, aptly titled “Sunshine and Grey,” plays with tone, pace, and even features the bells and a violin.
NEW CT MUSIC: Addy Edward’s “Too Hungry to Eat”
Connecticut music darling Addy Edward has given us his first offering of 2021, “Too Hungry to Eat.”
NEW CT HEAT: 404 by SotoLish
With industrial hip-hop sounds that begs for comparison to Run The Jewels, New Haven’s SotoLish serves up the production and bars to carry those expectations appropriately. Their latest release 404 is a gorgeous 11 song release that’s over too soon. Connecticut music fans have themselves a real winner.
CT HIP-HOP: AnUrbanNerd Returns with “Dent”
New London’s AnUrbanNerd released “Dent,” which sounds like everything Lil Wayne’s Rebirth should have been.
NEW CT MUSIC: As the Moonlight Backs the Sun by Ghost Child
The debut album from the Groton duo shows promise for the future, both as a studio band and for live performance.
Drkwlkr by Siul Hughes and Ceschi
New Haven’s Ceschi has teamed up with Bridgeport’s Siul Hughes to deliver an impressive 3 track EP titled Drkwlkr. Each bringing a wealth of experience with them, they prove to be a formidable duo rhyming over three well produced records.
Don’t Over Think It by AnUrbanNerd
To know AnUrbanNerd is to understand he is an artist of his community. He helps run a performing arts venue for local artists and wears the “nerd” moniker proudly. In July, he dropped his latest EP.
Take It Slow by Casey Cochran
The affable Casey Cochran is a renaissance man. His personal list of accomplishments are as varied as the wind, and his latest is no different. This week the Connecticut native released his first album, Take It Slow.
Daybreak Eyes by Addy Edward
Following in the footsteps of Baio (of Vampire Weekend) and Sir Paul McCartney (no elaboration needed), Connecticut’s Addy Edward joins a limited but strong tradition of bassists taking things solo. He’s already got an album under his belt, but we just learned about him today, so let’s pretend this is a new endeavor.
“Needing” by Figurine
Connecticut’s very own Figurine has brand new music for us. “Needing,” is very intimate, with the narrator (Figurine herself? Perhaps a character?) giving us honest insight into a difficult moment in her relationship.
“Alone” by riley
With his most recent release, “Alone,” riley shows us his radio ready range. An emotional ballad, it’s steeped in anxiety, depression, and loneliness.
Now in Storrs by Static Nerves
Static Nerves is a great example of vintage pop-punk, bringing to mind NHL 2005’s classic soundtrack. While they still definitely have a lofi(ish) DIY feel, their music is polished enough that each part comes through clearly.
“Haunt” by Amanda Bellitto
The most striking thing about Connecticut’s Amanda Bellitto is the strength of her voice. She has the type of voice that surrounds and washes over you. Her new single, “Haunt” opens with the line, “Take a chance on me.” To be clear, Bellitto’s vocal talent is what we would call “a sure thing.”
