HEAR IT NOW: Connecticut’s Celine Who releases “Self Absorbed”

Smooth and sensual, “Self Absorbed” by Connecticut’s Celine Who could’ve just as easily been released by Jhene Aiko. You need to hear this record now.

“Self Absorbed” is a funny name for the track, because Celine Who doesn’t really come across all that self-absorbed. She wants to get paid, she wants to enjoy the finer things in life, and she wants to be loved. If that’s what it’s like to be self-absorbed, than I guess I am too.

When you listen to “Self Absorbed” and then listen to 2018’s “Cope,” and even “Devotion,” released in February 2020, there’s a clear evolution. The singer counts Ari Lennox, Erykah Badu, SZA, and Lauryn Hill, and you can hear it in her music and see it in her style and fashion.  Between Who’s vocals and Marrow’s production, things have gone to a new level. It builds anticipation for her Self Absorbed EP, due out this year, which will now be big on our radar here.

If Celine Who continues to professionalize and polish her music like she has, she has the sound and the look to blow up given the right opportunity. That will likely take her from the Nutmeg state to the bright lights of New York or L.A., but we’ll enjoy her while she’s here, and hope we can catch her live before she’s up and out of here.
