Drkwlkr by Siul Hughes and Ceschi
New Haven’s Ceschi has teamed up with Bridgeport’s Siul Hughes to deliver an impressive 3 track EP titled Drkwlkr. Each bringing a wealth of experience with them, they prove to be a formidable duo rhyming over three well produced records.
Throughout, the music takes advantage of organic sounding instrumentation to great effect, giving Drkwlkr a rock feel uncommon on rap records that don’t feature Travis Barker. “The Notion” is particularly impressive, mixing rock instrumentation with sophisticated palette of whirring and whooping electronic sounds. It pairs well with the sense of desperation Ceschi and Hughes bring as MCs; the verses are ferocious and relentless and contrast with smoothly sung choruses.
“Drkwlkr,” the final offering, is dark and features label-mate Factor Chandelier. It lumbers along like an ancient Indian war elephant (shout out to my history degree). Each rapper hops on the mic like he’s going to war, bringing fire and brimstone with every verse. Drkwlkr is the latest release from Fake Four Inc. that proves Connecticut has something to say.
