NEW CT MUSIC: Amanda Bellitto Returns with “Colures”

Connecticut singer-songwriter Amanda Bellitto is back at it again with her new single “Colures,” giving us both a lesson in language and great music in one fell swoop. If there’s one thing we love at mvsicthovght, it’s efficiency.

Colures is not a misspelling of the British form of color (colour), but “either of two great circles intersecting at right angles at the celestial poles and passing through the ecliptic at either the equinoxes or the solstices.” More romantically, you might call them two heavenly bodies passing in the night. In “Colures,” Bellitto sings of growing into a new relationship and wonders whether or not it will last. Will they be colures, destined for short company, or will they last over time?

With intricate guitar and rich vocals, “Colures” has all of Bellitto’s hallmarks. The song moves along gently.

Then.

Suddenly.

The hard strum of an electric guitar. The music becomes more intense, but then, as quickly as it came, it’s gone, and we’re back to gentle guitar as Bellitto’s vocals trail off. The Fairfield County singer once again shows her lyrical acumen, writing poetically, as she always has. While “Colures” most closely resembles 2020’s “Haunt,” the inclusion of electric guitar definitely sets it apart. This is new ground for Bellitto, and we’ll have to see if this is evolution or simple artistic flirtation.

Colures” is available for purchase on BandCamp and can be streamed via your favorite service.
