NEW MUSIC: Germany’s Telquist has so much “Mojo”

Guten tag! This morning we’re going international with Germany’s Telquist. The solo project of Sebastian Eggerbauer, Telquist is focused on making pop hits that live somewhere in the realm of Milky Chance. Released in November, “Mojo” and its thumping bass fit right in this mold.

As you listen to Telquist’s catalogue, you quickly realize that Eggerbauer and his band have a talent for creating heavy basslines with fat drums. These funky grooves carry the listener through the song’s ups and downs and creates a fun little ride.

The rhythms on “Mojo” wouldn’t be out of place on 2013’s AM by the Arctic Monkeys. Aside from the beat, there are several other production details that will tickle your ear. “Mojo” has a chorus full of fun sounds before it resigns itself to a simple bass and drum verse. A very casual guitar comes in during the build up for the chorus, creating a cool dichotomy of chaos and calm. Eggerbauer’s voice is one that American listeners will find unique. While his laid back tone has become more common place on the U.S. airwaves, its texture and inflection add a nice wrinkle you can enjoy.

The song itself seems to focus on a relationship that is stuck in neutral, not sure where to go next, but the story is riding shotgun behind the music here. In spite of that fact, “Mojo” is such a pop banger, that even after you’re done bouncing along with the track, you’ll have the words stuck in your head as you’re doing your work for the day.

Listen to “Mojo” and the rest of Telquist’s discography now, available on all major streaming platforms.
