“The Difference” by Flume & Toro y Moi
A few weeks ago, around the time when we here at mvsicthovght fell off the face of the Earth, Flume released a new song with Toro y Moi. “The Difference” is a song that reminds me of electronic dance music before it was called “EDM.” Oh what wonderful times!
The song feels like a throwback to the early 2000s, possibly in the vein of Basement Jaxx. The Skids of Letterkenny could definitely dance to this in the drug store parking lot. Chaz Bear, the man behind the @toroymoi, sings with the desperation that @flume’s production requires, lamenting the struggle and the fleeting permanence of life. He’s got to get a grip on this world. There’s no time for games. Make no mistakes though, this song doesn’t feel sad. It’s a track that drives you to action, making it a great addition to a dance or workout playlist. The tempo will keep you moving, hopefully to make the most of things while we’re still here.
