19 Songs for You to Listen to Today: The Best Stuff I Heard This Week

This week’s playlist features 19 songs from across the musical spectrum that you should enjoy this weekend. Check out these 10 highlights, and scroll to the bottom for the complete playlist.

  1.      “Space Girl” – Frances Forever

This track actually was released and I’m a little disappointed I’m only discovering it now. This is a great track for a lazy summer day on the beach.  On the other hand, if you can do Christmas in July, why not Labor Day in January?

2.   “Loner” – Dehd

Chicago’s Dehd was actually going to do a show at MAC 650 at Middletown this spring, but due to the pandemic, it was cancelled. Dehd went on to have a killer year, and the chance to see them in such an intimate venue was probably dashed forever. Damn you coronavirus…. DAMN YOU!

3. “She’s a Headrush” – Friends Don’t Die

L.A.’s Friend’s Don’t Die make some great music with a carefree indie-pop vibe. Check out their piece from earlier in the week here.

4. “Bury Me” – B Rob

New London’s B Rob is probably an artist you haven’t heard of yet. Via a recent Instagram post (@b_rob.413), 2020 was a year of tremendous growth for this up and coming artist. Hopefully he can build on his musical work in 2021.

5. “The Notion” – Siul Hughes and Ceschi

This week Siul Hughes and Ceschi, two veteran rappers from Connecticut, put out their rock-solid Drkwlkr EP. Check it out here.

6. “Call Me Back” – Roy Next Door

Not much is known about Roy Next Door, and the discovery of the Manchester, UK song maker was totally random. “Call Me Back” is infectious and will have you diddy bopping in your chair.

7. “Shotgun” – Iraina Mancini

“Shotgun” by rising U.K. talent Iraina Mancini is a dark, sultry beat that feels lovely and mysterious perfect for a late night rendezvous or whenever bars reopen.

8. “4tress (You?)” – Spin-1/2

I think I came across Spin-1/2 this week via instagram, but I can’t really remember. Regardless, the U.K. artist has a certain Weeknd vibe to him that I think you’ll enjoy.

9. “I Ain’t Goin’ Back” – AnUrbanNerd feat. Erycka

Two NLCT artists teaming up to create one of the highlights from AnUrbanNerd’s Don’t Over Think It. Check out this week’s review here.

10. “Elfsong” – Niamh

While some celebrate New Year’s babies, we at mviscthovght celebrate New Year’s records. Read about Connecticut’s Niamh and their emotionally deep New Year’s Day release here.
