Daybreak Eyes by Addy Edward
Following in the footsteps of Baio (of Vampire Weekend) and Sir Paul McCartney (no elaboration needed), Connecticut’s Addy Edward joins a limited but strong tradition of bassists taking things solo. He’s already got an album under his belt, but we just learned about him today, so let’s pretend this is a new endeavor.
@addyedwardmusic, usually providing bass and vocals for Connecticut favorite @daniprobablymusic, released a new single called “Daybreak Eyes,” this week and you should listen to it. The song is unique; it has a singer-songwriter sensibility to it, but with more production elements that give the song a certain splendor worthy of the #BassistsGoneSoloClub. You’ll discover more and more detail as you continue to listen. His vocals match the track’s motif perfectly; soft but very present. The track begins slowly, but it grows, and before you’ve noticed, things are hopping along nicely. Each element of “Daybreak Eyes,” seems relatively simple on the surface, but together, the layered components create an upbeat elegance that you can’t help but enjoy. Then the guitar comes wailing in during the chorus and it ensnares the attention, freeing subtleties from your consciousness.
It put pep in our step and smiles on our faces, so good forth and enjoy “Daybreak Eyes,” by Addy Edward. Let it wash over you and lift up your spirit.
